Macau casino-shuttle use volume for 2024 up 47pct y-o-y, but still lower than 2019

The number of passenger movements conducted by Macau-casino shuttle buses in 2024 went up 47.3 percent year-on-year, to nearly 52.98 million, from just over 35.96 million in 2023.

The 2024 volume was still 16.1 percent lower than the pre-pandemic year of 2019, when the casino shuttles accounted for 63.18 million passenger movements, show the latest available data from the city’s Transport Bureau.

The data count a single journey by an individual in one direction, as one passenger movement. Many casino shuttles operate either from the Border Gate with Zhuhai, the Taipa Ferry Terminal, the Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal, or the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, serving downtown casinos and ones in Cotai.

Some shuttles also operate between Macau peninsula casino properties, and Cotai ones. Not all casino-shuttle users are tourists, as some locals also utilise them.

In 2024, Macau’s six casino operators ran an aggregate of 65 shuttle routes via 376 buses. That compared to 2023’s tally of 59 routes using 281 buses; and 2019’s total of 57 routes via 426 buses.

Casino shuttle bus 2024 journey volume grew by 38.1 percent year-on-year to just under 3.1 million trips, from just above 2.2 million in 2023, the bureau’s data show. In 2019, such journey volume was over 3.3 million.
